The general acceptance of natural non-pharmaceutical products has come a long way in the past decade. This has not only been spurred on by consumer demand, but by an increasing validation coming out of governmental, institutional and privatized research funding.
Peer-reviewed studies are the keystone to acceptance of natural products by the medical community. These efforts have fostered a new industry referred to by different monikers including “nutraceuticals”, “medicinal foods” and the official Canadian term “Natural Health Product”.
Immunocal is proud to be among the pioneers in this field, having had its beginnings in research over 35 years ago. We feel that properly controlled studies and scientific validation of natural products are a critical part of the continued acceptance by health professionals and the public at large.
Immunotec Inc., the makers of Immunocal, began as a research company called “Immunotec Research Ltd”. This was a collaborative effort between the original scientific research team and a group of business people wanting to bring their scientific discoveries to the market. Research on Immunocal began in 1979 and was commercialized in 1997. Immunotec continues to fund research abroad and has recently set up the “Gustavo Bounous Foundation” at McGill University, which offers grants to applicants studying redox physiology.
