Immunocal - Contents

Immunocal is a derivative of bovine milk. It is a specialized whey protein isolate rich in non-denatured glutathione precursors, specifically alpha-lactalbumin, lactoferrin, serum albumin, and beta-lactoglobulin. These thermolabile proteins include many cysteine residues in their native configuration (non-denatured) which contain intact disulfide bridges forming cystine (the dimer or dipeptide of cysteine) which is trypsin and pepsin-resistant. In this form, the amino acid cysteine is made more bioavailable for absorption, serum transport and tissue uptake. This has a great advantage over the free amino acid l-cysteine, which is rapidly catabolized in the gastrointestinal system. In this sense, Immunocal functions as an effective “cysteine delivery” mechanism.
